One Day Intensive Auditions Master Class
This Master Class is an 8 hour intensive focused on making your
audition the best it can be. For some this class will be an introduction to methods widely used in
theatre classes and for others it will be a refresher or a reminder of skills you already have. The Master Class is applicable for skill levels including high school students, college students and professionals needing a refresher. This class would be appropriate for teachers of acting who wish to hone their skills and possibly garner more tips in teaching acting auditions. The Master Class will be individualized to make sure that the participants receive information that fits their basic needs and objectives.
Also available: "Nail That Audition" Workshop, an abbreviated version (1-2 hours) of the Master Class for groups of any size, featuring information on auditioning in general, plus details on SETC's different types of auditions. (The sample schedule below is for the 8 hour Master Class.)
Section 1:
Selecting a Piece: Specifics about what makes a good monologue, what directors are looking for, what is right for you, what kinds of pieces you should stay away from, etc. We will look at the pieces you brought, pieces you are working on and pieces you wish to consider. We will share and read them all and open up for feedback from the rest of the class.
Section 2:
Warm up: The class will go through basic warm up activities focusing on voice, mind and body. This will be in preparation for working the pieces in the workshop and also for information that students may use later in preparation for auditions. The warm up section will introduce the use of yoga, Alexander movement and Linklater voice work among other stretching and focus exercises.
Section 3:
Acting: Acting skills focusing on the basics of Stanislavski leading to achieving your goal with the monologue. In addition, there will be exercises which will aid in work toward the use of the body and the voice to execute your acting/audition goals. The class will also look at what it means to act through a song.
Section 4:
Working the Monologue: The class will be introduced to a method of scoring the text. The class will then spend time on their feet working the monologue and presenting their work with individual coaching and directing.
Section 5:
Presenting the Monologues: The class will present their monologues under circumstances that closely resemble professional auditions standards.
Section 6:
Feedback: General and Individual feedback on the auditions, reworking and discussion.
Section 7:
An Introduction of SETC: What to expect in SETC Professional, Graduate, Undergraduate and Dance Auditions.
"Hardy
did a wonderful job combining information for both
technical and performance students. He also hit
on useful information both for the newbies and
the ones who have been through the process several
times before. They learned many new things. And,
what they had heard from us before, they saw as
comforting to hear it from somebody outside of
our program. Thanks again. It really was terrific."

"As theatre teachers we think we
have heard and seen it all when it comes to auditions
but this workshop pulls it together in such a clear
and energetic way that the students come away with
a much better chance of putting together an audition
that "works!"
