Legal Issues for the Theatre

An overview of many of the legal issues facing theatres, performers, playwrights, directors and any others working
in the theatre. Issues include: contracts, copyright (including issues about director's rights), Americans With
Disabilities Act, Race/Sex/Age Discrimination, personal injury liability, non-profit board responsibilities,
rights of publicity, and many others. Ample time will be allowed for Q&A.
Dan Ellison writes the legal issues column for the SETC Newsletter. He has a private legal practice in Durham, NC,
concentrating in arts and museum law. He is also the Executive Director of the NC Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts.
He advises numerous theatres, dance troupes performers, writers and visual artists and is a frequent speaker on a
variety of arts law topics. He also developed Durham Arts Place, which recently celebrated its tenth anniversary
of providing affordable artist studio spaces.

Textile and Social History Tour at the Atlanta History Center
Tour the Atlanta History Center's Textile and Social History Collection,
which portrays an intimate record of the daily lives of Atlantans, from the city's earliest years to the present.
Consisting of 10,000 pieces, it is the museum's largest collection. The collection includes everyday and special
occasion clothing, accessories, furnishing textiles, and other personal objects which represent Atlanta in the
context of the Southeast.
Transportation will be provided.
