The Southeastern Theatre Conference is proud to award scholarships for individuals continuing their study in Theatre. The SETC Endowment Fund supports each award. For more information and application forms for each of the following scholarships, please click on the title.

The Robert Porterfield Award $3,400 to a student entering or attending a fully accredited graduate school or conservatory to study theatre Deadline: January 15, 2008 The Leighton M. Ballew Directing Award $3,300 to a student to study directing at a fully accredited graduate school or conservatory Deadline: January 15, 2008 The Marian A. Smith Costume Award $2,300 to a student pursuing a graduate degree in costume design and/or technology. Deadline: Extended to February 8, 2008!

The Secondary School Scholarship $2,100 to a high school student on entering a college or university in the SETC region to major in theatre Deadline: January 15, 2008 The William E. Wilson Award $6,500 to an educator pursuing a graduate degree in theatre or speech and theatre in a regionally accredited graduate program Deadline: January 15, 2008 The Polly Holliday Award $1,000 to a student entering undergraduate school to study theatre Deadline: January 15, 2008

New Play Project (Charles M. Getchell Award)
The SETC New Play Project is dedicated to the discovery, development and publicizing of worthy new plays and playwrights.The Charles M. Getchell Award is $1000 and a Staged Play Reading at the 2008 Convention in Chattanooga, TN. The winner must be present.
    Entry: Between March 1st and June 1st.

High School New Play Project
The SETC High School New Play Project is dedicated to the encouragement and development of worthy new one act plays written by high school playwrights. SETC High School New Play Award is $250 and a Staged Play Reading at the 2008 Convention in Chattanooga, TN. The winner must be present.
    Entry: Between October 1st and December 1st

Design Competition
Three internationally acclaimed designers critique graduate and undergraduate entries in Scenic, Costume, Lighting Design, Crafts and Technology. Cash awards are given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd Places.

Keynote Emerging Artists of Promise Awards
A grant presented annually to four high school students who show promise in theatre and would benefit from a grant to attend the convention. KEAP recipients are recognized for their dedication to theatre and academic excellence at keynote addresses, the state luncheon and the SETC Awards Banquet. Sara Spencer Child Drama Award
Recognizes an individual or organization for distinct achievement in such areas of child drama as: playwriting, performance, audience development, curriculum development, funding, scholarship, community programs, research, television programming, creative drama or other enrichment programs within the SETC Region. Young Scholar's Award (call for papers)
SETC's History/Theory/Criticism/Literature Committee invites submissions from graduate students and undergraduate students relating to the committee's interest areas of history, theory, criticism, and literature. One graduate and one undergraduate paper will be chosen to win a $225 cash prize and to present their winning papers at the SETC conference in Birmingham, Alabama. Click here for more information.
