In 2017, the Institute of Outdoor Theatre transitioned into its new partnership and management relationship with SETC. SETC is maintaining and building upon services that have long been valued by the outdoor theatre community, including Summer and Outdoor Theatre Auditions, an annual national conference, year-round consulting, and online resources.
National Conference on Outdoor Theatre
The 59th Annual National Conference on Outdoor Theatre will be held in person this year!
2022 Conference Dates and Location: October 19 – 21, 2022
Location: Unto These Hills in Cherokee, NC.
Each fall, theatre leaders from all backgrounds convene for a multi-day networking event where conference attendees trade insights and explore new concepts in design/technology, management and artistic approach.

Summer and Outdoor Theatre Auditions
SETC Summer & Outdoor Theatre Auditions will be held in person Jan. 13 – 14, 2023
Location: On the campus of Greensboro College in Greensboro, NC.
Registration Opened: Dec. 1, 2022 at Noon ET. Registration Deadline: Dec. 29, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. ET.
SETC Outdoor Theatre hosts auditions for summer and outdoor theatres looking to cast acting, singing, dancing and stage combat positions. Interviews are also available for technical positions. Theatre Consulting Network
SETC and the Institute of Outdoor Theatre have combined their consulting and technical assistance programs in a new initiative: the Theatre Consulting Network. The Theatre Consulting Network will draw on the resources of a national network of theatre specialists to advise organizations on a comprehensive range of issues.
The 2021 Outdoor Theatre Pandemic Assistance Grant Winners
The 2021 Outdoor Theatre Pandemic Assistance Grants have been announced and were awarded to 10 non-academic professional theatres with current SETC organizational membership status. Funds are being used to support theatre operations related to reopening theatres and best practices for pandemic safety protocols including equipment, supplies, training, and/or other pandemic-related reopening expenses.
