Time limit and content
You will have two minutes and thirty seconds (2:30) for your audition.
- In-person auditions: Time begins on slate (Name and audition number – please do not introduce audition piece(s)). NOTE: A timer will be on-site and will call stop for auditions that go over time.
- Video audition: The video time stamp MUST reflect two-minutes thirty-seconds. Do not slate name or introduce pieces.
While you're preparing your audition, remember:
- No props
- Your audition should include:
- a classical monologue
- a contemporary monologue
- If you plan to sing as part of your audition, your music selection should replace the contemporary piece
- You may do all three (classical monologue, contemporary monologue, and song) if you feel you can accomplish all three within your two minutes and thirty seconds
Music preparation (for singers)
- Video Audition - Musical pieces should be accompanied by piano or keyboard-only – either live or piano-only track.
- In-Person Audition - An accompanist will be on site and sheet music must be provided. No a Capella singing is allowed.
- Songs should be approximately 16 measures of music
- To best assist the accompanist:
- Music should be able to stand on its own (use a notebook or tape inside a file folder) and any page turns be easily managed.
- Clearly mark the starting and stopping measures in the music, and the desired tempo.
- If starting with a monologue, include the last line of the monologue on the music.
- Bring music in desired key – accompanist will not transpose.
Useful tips for video auditions
- During the video, frame your body from the knees up.
- Face forward, but do not audition straight into the camera lens.
- Best video file formats include .MOV, .MP4 (most phones use .MP4 format).
- Video files cannot be larger than 200mb.
