Summer Outdoor Theatre Auditions

Important Information

The Summer Outdoor Theatre Auditions will be held at Greensboro College in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Are the Summer Outdoor Auditions for me?

The Summer Outdoor Theatre Auditions are for those actors who wish to perform or work in tech positions for Summer Outdoor Theaters. You must be available for summer contracted work.

College Students

Participants can be currently enrolled college students (undergraduate or graduate) OR recent graduates from an accredited institution.

• Audition Process: All applicants must submit an audition through SETC’s Acceptd portal. Applicants are then invited to attend the live Summer and Outdoor Theatre Auditions, held annually in January.
• Performance & Technical Categories:
  
  • Performance Candidates present a monologue and/or song within a strict 60-second time limit.
  • Technical and Design Candidates complete interviews and portfolio reviews with hiring companies in person.
• Professional Standards: Participants must demonstrate professional conduct, punctuality, and preparedness throughout the audition process.

For many college students, the SETC Summer and Outdoor Theatre Auditions mark their first major step into the professional world. The event connects emerging artists directly with producers, artistic directors, and casting teams representing theatres across the United States. You will complete your application here, we will send you your audition number and we will see you at the audition in January!

Performers please note: You will audition on a stage in a theatre with spotlights on you. You will be center stage when you perform your 60 second audition package in the best placement so that you can be seen and heard. Please prepare and practice introducing yourself with ONLY your name and audition number. Your attire should showcase you in your best light, whatever makes you feel confident. You are auditioning for professional theatre companies who are looking to hire performers for summer work. Be sure to rehearse your audition with a trusted coach.

Required Materials

Required for all auditionees

• Main Audition Video (60 seconds)
  
  • Acting only – Monologue
  • Singing only – Song (song must be accompanied with piano music or high quality track)
  • Both Acting & Singing – Monologue and Song (both must be included in your video)
• Headshot & Resume
• Other performance reels you have (optional)

Dancer Only

Dancer-only performers must apply for the SETC Professional Screening Auditions. In order to qualify:

• 18 years of age or older prior to screening auditions registration deadline
• Available to accept seasonal work
• Proficient in basic dance routines; high level of technique and ballet expected; tap not required, but highly sought
• Dance reel required for the application
• Dance reels should be no more than 3 minutes in length.

Dancers please note: We suggest very strongly that you prepare an audition (either monologue, song or both). Companies prefer to see you audition in addition to your dancing. Please prepare and practice introducing yourself with ONLY your name and audition number. Your attire should showcase you in your best light, whatever makes you feel confident. You should also bring dance attire to learn the dance call choreography and to perform in. Dance shoes, whatever you feel confident. The choreography will feature a musical theatre combination. You are auditioning for professional theatre companies who are looking to hire performers for summer work. Be sure to rehearse your audition with a trusted coach.

Tech Candidates

• Candidates are asked to upload portfolio/work examples into Acceptd

• A headshot or recent photograph must be submitted which serves as the profile image in the candidate gallery
• Work example images can be submitted using .jpg, .jpeg, or .png
  • Images of production designs (scenic, lighting, costume, props, etc.)
  • Work process images
• Documents can be submitted using PDF files: 
  • Designer/Technical Direction documents
    
    • Concept statements, production research, process images, hand rendered or CAD designs/technical drawings, etc.
  • Stage Management documents
    • Rehearsal schedule, rehearsal reports, production reports, blocking examples, etc.

Technicians please note: You will have access to electrics and a table to set up your work samples. Each company will come around and interview you and ask questions about your work on the spot. Please prepare and practice introducing yourself and talking about the highlights of your work. Your attire should showcase you in your best light, whatever makes you feel confident. You are interviewing with professional theatre companies who are looking to hire technicians for summer work.

Hiring Companies

Hiring Companies have access to Dance Call, Fight Call, Live Tech Interviews, auditionee and tech candidate profiles, and a Company Hiring guide.

Audition Details

Auditionees will audition in-person with a 60-second monologue and/or song. There will be an invited dance call. You may view auditionee profiles including audition materials, reels, resumes, and headshots via Acceptd when registration closes for auditionees and tech candidates.

Tech candidates will be available for interviews on the spot with their portfolios and resumes available for you to view.  You will also be able to view each candidates additional relevant uploads on the Acceptd platform.

How will this work?

Hiring Companies will fill out an application, including company hiring details. Hiring details will be shared to the other registered companies and auditionees for perusal. Once registration closes for auditionees, registered professional companies will be given access to auditionees' profiles including tech candidates. You may view them, download, and get ready for the audition, but SETC does ask that you do not communicate to the candidates before the audition has been completed.
