Grants
SETC is proud to offer five grant programs — two to support producing theatre organizations, one to support the field of arts administration, one to support educators, and one to support HBCU programs.
SETC Convention Grant
This grant provides non-academic professional theatres that are not yet organizational members of SETC with funds to participate in the annual SETC Convention and become an organizational member of SETC for one year.
The grantee receives:
- A registration waiver to SETC's annual convention for up to four (4) staff members will be waived by SETC (total value up to $1,600)
- Up to $800 reimbursement per organization for travel, lodging, and/or meals
- Recognition in SETC publications
Staffing Development Matching Grant
This grant is awarded to non-academic professional theatres with current SETC organizational membership status to support programs that provide early-career theatre professionals with experiential learning opportunities in the field.
The grantee receives:
- Matching funds for up to $2,000. (To meet the 1:1 match requirement, theatre companies may include cash or in-kind services in their match.)
- Recognition in SETC publications
Betsey Horth Arts Administration Advancement Grant
In 2019, SETC established the Betsey Horth Arts Administration Advancement Grant to support either individual theatre professionals or theatre organizations. The grant supports projects to develop, re-tune, or expand leadership and management.
The grantee receives:
- $1,000 grant award to either an individual or non-academic theatre organization.
- Recognition in SETC Publication
SETC Teachers’ Institute Convention Grants
This grant supports attendance at the SETC Teachers’ Institute—a half-day seminar for educators using theatre in the classroom. Ideal for teachers, directors, and teaching artists, it offers hands-on learning, fresh strategies, and professional development credit.
The grantee receives:
- Registration waiver to SETC's annual convention for the participating educator (total value $479)
- Registration waiver to SETC's Teachers' Institute at the annual SETC Convention
- Recognition in SETC publications
- Theatrical Edge Academy (TEA) registration fees waived for up to five (5) eligible students
SETC HBCU Convention Grant
This grant supports participation by HBCU theatre programs (BA/BFA) at the SETC Convention, offering access to professional development and networking opportunities. SETC invites programs of all sizes to apply as part of our ongoing commitment to equity and inclusion.
The grantee receives:
- $2,000 grant award
- $1,500 travel stipend
- Registration waivers to SETC's annual convention for one (1) staff member and 8-10 students (total value up to $4,345)
- Three hotel rooms booked on behalf of the program for Thursday – Sunday
