SCHEDULE: This full-time role is event-driven and requires significant schedule flexibility, with regular evening, weekend, and holiday hours based on event needs.
JOB SUMMARY:
Supervises Cultural Arts Technical Assistant in addition to volunteers and licensees of the Cookeville Performing Arts Center and Dogwood Performance Pavilion as well as other Leisure Services Facilities. Assists Cultural Arts Superintendent in the organization, implementation, and operation of cultural arts activities at the Performing Arts Center and other facilities. Specifically responsible for technical direction of shows at the Performing Arts Center, Dogwood Performance Pavilion and other facilities as assigned.
Examples of work performed: monitors and supervises programs and events held at the Performing Arts Center, Dogwood Pavilion, and other facilities as assigned; responsible for operation and maintenance of Performing Arts Center's lighting, sound, and fly systems and associated equipment; designs lighting, sound, and sets for productions at the Performing Arts Center, Dogwood Performance Pavilion and other facilities; constructs sets, hangs light plots, records sound effects and soundtracks for productions; makes recommendations for purchase of new or replacement equipment; provides information and assistance for callers and visitors; serves as house technical director for the Performing Arts Center; works in cooperation with facility users to provide information, technical assistance, materials, and services; assists in recruiting and training volunteer workers; supervises and trains volunteers and subordinate workers as assigned; evaluates subordinates; assists with departmental special events; adheres to standard theatre safety protocols and trains others for safe utilization of the systems and equipment in the performing arts center; related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of theatrical production and stage management
Knowledge of cultural arts activities
Knowledge of basic carpentry, electrical and plumbing
Knowledge of technical aspects of a theatre and/or stage facilities
Ability to operate a personal computer
Ability to maintain technical equipment
Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing
Ability to work a flexible schedule
Ability to work in adverse weather conditions and at heights from ladders, catwalks, and personnel lifts
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with co-workers and the public
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school education or equivalent is required. A minimum of three years' experience in either: theatre, television, radio production, electronics, electrical systems or electrical maintenance. Must possess a valid TN Driver's License.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Physical:
The essential functions of this position are primarily non-sedentary. They include maneuvering one's body to reach, move, lift, etc. objects frequently weighing up to fifty pounds; climbing ladders; walking on elevated platforms and catwalks; using a variety of hand-manipulated tools and power tools; navigating uneven surfaces including terrain; driving a motor vehicle to various City facilities. The sedentary essential functions include using a computer and associated peripherals; moving about in an office environment; and using a variety of communication devices. Must be able to work flexible schedule, including nights and weekends. Attendance is considered an essential function of this position.
