The Lighting Design & Technology faculty position is a full-time, 10-month, renewable contract position. The open-rank position allows for authentic consideration of candidates’ unique strengths and potential to serve in the role of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Lecturer, or Professor of Practice.

The Lighting Design & Technology position is responsible for producing quality theatre lighting for theatre and dance productions, managing the department's lighting and electrics shop and work for the academic year and production season, and overseeing inventory, acquisition, organization, management, repair, and installation of technology and tools related to theatrical lighting and sound. Teaching responsibilities include lighting design and technology classes ranging from fundamentals to advanced levels, courses in general theatre, theatre history, industry and professionalism, and supervision and mentoring of student crews, designers, electricians, and crew leaders within a student-centric approach.
In addition, we seek a team member who can commit to innovating and advancing ideas and practices in theatrical design and technology, working within professional networks beyond the University, and developing curriculum and projects aimed specifically to students with goals and interests in the field of DTM.

The Department of Theatre and Dance operates three undergraduate degree programs with 150 students and 13 faculty and staff at the main campus location in Troy, Alabama, which hosts a student population of 7,000 students.
Theatrical Performance Venues Include:
- Claudia Crosby Theater - 600-seat proscenium theater
- Trojan Center Theater – 290-seat proscenium theater
- Malone Hall Black Box Theater – 55-seat flexible venue and classroom
- Janice Hawkins Park Amphitheater
Minimum Qualifications:
- Masters, MFA, or other Terminal degree in Lighting Design and Technology or related area of theatre, design, or technology and/or commensurate professional experience
- Academic experience – teaching, mentorship, leadership (1-3 years)
- Professional experience – design, tech, management (1-3 years)
- Industry knowledge and demonstrated, hands-on experience of technology practices across multiple media and disciplines in lighting, projections
- Extensive knowledge of safe use of equipment and safety standards
- Demonstrated drafting skills and proficiency in VectorWorks, CAD, and/or related technology
- A collaborative and open attitude
- Demonstrated commitment and ability to work with a diverse group of students and faculty.
- Ability to recruit and retain students with design/tech/management career interests and goals
Preferred Qualifications:
- MFA in Lighting, Sound, and/or Projections Design
- 3-5 years experience in university setting
- 3-5 years years of experience in professional theatre
- Industry knowledge of design, construction, and technology practices across multiple disciplines
Salary Range: $58,000-65,000/year (10 month contract)
