The Scenic Design & Technology faculty position is a full-time. 10-month, renewable
contract. The open rank allows for consideration of candidates for the position of
Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Lecturer, or Professor of Practice.
TROY Theatre and Dance is seeking a strong addition to our collaborative and

The Scenic Design & Technology position is primarily responsible for design of
scenic elements for Theatre and Dance productions; engaging in a collaborative,
artistic process of design and production; assisting with construction, fabrication,
painting, and treatment of scenery; teaching courses in design, technology,
construction, scenic techniques, and general theatre; mentoring student staff,
technicians, and production crews with a student-centric approach aimed at
providing opportunities to develop student skill, independence, and agency.
In addition, we seek a team member who can commit to innovating and advancing
ideas and practices in theatrical design and technology, working within professional
networks beyond the University, and developing curriculum and projects aimed
specifically to students with goals and interests in the field of DTM.

Troy University is a regionally accredited four-year liberal arts institution that features
a blend of the traditional college experience and online and alternative educational
opportunities. TROY is known for its diverse international student population, its

and its balance of academics, arts, and athletics. The Department of Theatre and
Dance operates three undergraduate degree programs with 150 students and 13
faculty and staff at the main campus location in Troy, Alabama, which hosts a student
population of 7,000.


Theatrical Performance Venues Include:
• Claudia Crosby Theater - 900-seat proscenium theater
• Trojan Center Theater – 290-seat proscenium theater
• Malone Hall Black Box Theater – 55-seat flexible venue and classroom
• Janice Hawkins Park Amphitheater

Minimum Qualifications:

• Master’s degree, MFA, or other terminal degree in Scenic Design or related area
of theatre, design, or technology and/or commensurate professional experience
• Academic experience – teaching, mentorship, leadership (1-3 years)
• Professional experience – design, tech, management (1-3 years)
• Industry knowledge and demonstrated hands-on experience of technology
practices, design, and construction/fabrication
• Extensive knowledge of safe use of equipment and safety standards
• Demonstrated drafting skills and proficiency in CAD, VectorWorks, and/or related
technology
• Collaborative and open attitude
• Demonstrated commitment and ability to work with a diverse group of students
and faculty
• Ability to recruit and retain students with design/tech/management career
interests and goals
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Ability to demonstrate responsible leadership, judgment, and productive
relationships
• Ability to build and foster a positive and inclusive work environment

Preferred Qualifications:
• MFA in Scenic Design or related area
• 3-5 years experience in university setting
• 3-5 years years of experience in professional theatre
• Industry knowledge of design, construction, and technology practices across
   multiple disciplines
• Valid state driver’s license and ability to occasionally drive 24’ box trucks
• Strong interest in construction and fabrication

Salary Range: $58,000-65,000/year (10 month contract)
