Winthrop University, a highly ranked, public, comprehensive university, announces a national search for a program director and Assistant/ Associate Professor of Arts Administration. The qualified candidate will teach courses within their area of expertise in the master’s degree and/ or undergraduate minor in Arts Administration. The ideal candidate has a record of effective administrative leadership, excellent teaching, scholarship, and meaningful professional stewardship. The program director serves as a member of the college administrative leadership team, reporting to the dean and works collaboratively with faculty, staff, and the department chairs of design, theatre and dance, music, and fine arts to develop and implement strategic initiatives, curricula, and policies.

This is a full-time, 12-month, non-tenure track, 3-year teaching appointment with reassigned time granted for administrative responsibilities and the possibility of renewal based on performance, programmatic need, and availability of funding. The program director will have daily contact with students, faculty, and staff on campus and be available to work evenings and some weekends. Candidates should have the desire to teach in an interdisciplinary, diverse, and highly collaborative environment. Rank and salary are dependent on qualifications.

The Master of Arts Administration (MAAA) is offered as a fully online graduate program. There is also an online graduate certificate, and an undergraduate in seat minor offered in Arts Administration. The graduate program combines current theory, academic research and applied practice to help students become effective leaders and work with professional skill, creative initiative, and humane integrity in diverse arts environments. Winthrop University is a member of the Association of Arts Administration Educators (AAAE), the international professional organization that promotes standards of education in arts administration. The MAAA program is also accredited by the National Association of School of Art and Design (NASAD).

Position Responsibilities:

• Serve as the academic and administrative officer for the program.
• Provide strategic and operational direction for the program.
• Teach a reduced load of courses in areas of expertise within the arts administration program.
• Develop and manage program activities, courses, and course schedules.
• Oversee curriculum development and program assessment (including collaborating with other departments on the preparation of accreditation materials).
• Recruit, hire, mentor, and evaluate faculty members and capstone advisors.
• Recruit new students through the development and implementation of targeted marketing strategies, the production of effective advertising and promotional materials, and the representation of the program at formal and informal recruitment events.
• Oversee distribution of social media posts and publication of monthly newsletter.
• Manage admissions for all new students.
• Provide academic advising for all students.
• Oversee and review all student capstone papers and projects.
• Promote the program to internal and external audiences and develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including potential donors, sponsors, future employers, local, state, and regional partners, artists, and arts organizations.
• Engage in scholarly activity and professional stewardship.
• Serve on the College of Visual and Performing Arts Dean’s Council.
• Supervise graduate assistant (if assigned to the program).
• Serve as representative to the Association of Arts Administration Educators (AAAE).

Employment Conditions: A full-time 12-month, non-tenure track, 3-year appointment. Salary is competitive and dependent on academic qualifications.

Qualifications:

• Terminal degree in arts administration or a closely related field. (If the degree is in a related field, 18 hours of graduate coursework in arts management or extensive professional experience as an arts administrator is required.)
• Evidence of relevant administrative experience.
• Minimum 3-5 years teaching experience at the post-secondary level, including online teaching experience.
• Experience working collaboratively and effectively with faculty, students, administrators, staff, and external constituencies.
• Experience in curricula development and program assessment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
